How to Get and Deploy Faction Networks

There are two models for deploying Faction Networks, which correspond to the customer profile and use cases that are prevalent.

Personal Private Networks (PPNs)

Direct Subscription & Self-Deploy

Personal Private Networks are for individual users and small groups, where the customer signs up directly with us as a free or premium subscription. Each customer gets just one Faction Network, to which they can add and manage groups, group managers, users, pods and devices.

Virtual Private Circuits (VPCs)

Work with a Faction Deployment Partner

VPCs are for SMEs or collaborative teams of any size that need to secure distributed workplaces with lots of smart, dumb and legacy devices.

Each customer can create and manage multiple Faction Networks, and generally will have custom deployment, configuration and integrations that include the wide scale use of Pods or Pods firmware.

How to Get and Deploy Faction Pods

While Faction Pods themselves are purchased and licensed separately, they are only useful when they are adopted into a Faction Network or Group of which you are the owner. When you adopt a Pod:

  • It becomes gateway to a local area network (usually but does not have to be Wifi) for your Faction Network.
  • The Pod and all the devices that you connect to a Pod at the location are OFF of the Internet and only visible and accessible to your Faction Networks and the Groups into which the Pod has been placed.

How to Get and Use Faction Data Encryption

Faction data encryption will be delivered in two different ways

PPN Customers

Faction Data Encryption will come as built-in features for Premium PPN customers in the Faction Applications, starting with:

  • Private Email
  • BYO Cloud
  • Faction Drive

These will vary based on the subscription level that you have.

VPC Customers

Faction Data Encryption is a configurable and extensible core capability of the Faction Platform. Therefore, for Enterprise VPC Customers, we can work together with your Faction deployment partner to customize, integrate and extend how you use data encryption to achieve your goals and maximize benefits and ROI.

User Levels and Structure

Licensed Users

Faction user levels and structure are straightforward and generally should be familiar to uses of SaaS applications. Here's the basics.

Network Owner

Faction Owner

Can create, control and manage a network and all its users, devices and permissions.

  • Is the Customer and Admin.
  • Or can assign Admin role to another licensed user.
  • Control and see but do not have access to Faction Groups created by Group Managers.

Group Managers

Faction Group Manager

Can create and manage Faction Groups with their own Members and unique keys

  • They are the admin of their own Groups
  • Can access all Network Groups to which they have been invited.
  • Can be given higher level permissions and shared roles.

Members

Faction Member

Can join and participate in Network Groups and Private Groups

  • Can access all Public Groups on a Faction Network.
  • Must be invited to Private Groups.
  • Subject to permission set by Group Manager

All Licensed Users Can:

  • Join and participate in other networks as Group Manager, Member or Guest - which will be under the control and license of that Faction Network Owner.
  • Access anything that is in a Faction Group to which they been invited (Members, devices, shared drives, data, etc.)
  • Access Public Groups and resource on the Faction Network to which they have a license.

Visibility of Licensed Users

  • Licensed users are visible to and known by the Faction Network owner to which they are licensed.
  • Licensed users - and all users other than the Network Owner / Customer - are NOT visible, accessible or known to Faction Communications or any other party who is not a part of your Faction Network.

Guests

Any user can sign-up, install and start using Faction for free as a Guest. Guests can:

  • join as many Faction Networks as they are invited to; and then
  • participate in limited ways to Private Groups to which they are then invited and authenticated by the Group Owner.

    • Guests do NOT have a license from the Faction Network owner and thus can be anonymous and private. This is useful in many use cases involving privacy, confidentiality, HIPAA and so on. If the Faction Network owner does not wish to permit anonymous guests, this can be blocked.
